Taking My Own Advice

It's a poor teacher who doesn't follow his own advice. I am going to take my advice and move back to Arizona so I can expand my choice of casinos to play poker, dice, blackjack and some of the other games I promote on these websites.

Why not?

The more choices a player has, the better his chances of winning. Here in South Carolina, my choices of casinos are very limited and sometimes the available casinos like BestBet or Myrtle Beach don't offer the games I want to play.

I will be heading to Phoenix next week and will be visiting my old stomping grounds like Wild Horse Pass near Chandler, Talking Stick Casino near Scottsdale and Ft. McDowell Casino just east of Fountain Hills. I am looking forward to the challenges these casinos pose to players.

While casinos on Indian reservations are not perfect, they offer a lot of attractions to players. For example, I would like to see the Indian casinos improve their perks as well as increase security in poker rooms to make sure the games are conducted honestly.

The ultimate in security, of course, is Las Vegas. Casino management has had many years of improving security measures to protect their players as well as the House from unscrupulous people who might be tempted to take advantage of the system. When you play in a Las Vegas casino, you are playing in a secure protected environment where you know your chances of being cheated are very slim.

I have won some good tournaments in Arizona, Nevada and California and hope to continue my winning streak out West. The scenery is spectacular, a delight to the eyes and the dealers and casino personnel are well trained to give a player the ultimate gambling experience.

Phoenix is less than four hours driving time from Las Vegas and about five hours to Lake Elsinore or the card rooms in Southern California. It is the Valley of the Sun, a spectacular desert oasis that always offers a lot to a person like myself who loves freedom.

I am also intrigued by the passage of the new legislation to legalize marijuana in Nevada. While the jury is still out on whether the mellowing influence of marijuana is good or bad for the recreational gambler, I am willing to tempt fate to try it. After interviewing people like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, B.B. King and other legends of country and rock music on the herb, I am convinced it is less harmful and more beneficial than alcohol. Gamblers are risk takers and I think I have....smiles....said enough about the subject.

I am looking forward to seeing my old friends in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Many of them have worked at the same casino most of their professional lives, yet they never lose their excitement for their profession. That to me is amazing. Yes, they are older and, yes, they have less hair and a few more wrinkles. Yes, they could use a good tan and their eyes look a bit tired.

But when they see me, they smile and sparkle up. There will be handshakes, maybe a hug or two, and they will escort me to my favorite table. I will order a drink or something to eat. The dealer will smile while riffling the cards and say, 'I thought you were dead.' I will return the compliment and the game will begin.

Poker is like life. I can say the same thing for all gambling games. There is the preparation, the anticipation, the expectancy, and then the action. It doesn't get much better than that.
