Back DCMS Chooses New Members to the Gambling Commission

The Gambling Commission welcomes seven newly appointed Commissioners, chosen by the Secretary of State.

A fortnight ago, the UK Government introduced a fresh proposal to impose a levy on gambling firms. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at tackling the issue of problem gambling. The generated funds will be allocated towards research, prevention, and treatment of gambling addiction.

The recently appointed Commissioners are as follows:

Lloydette Bai-Marrow:

She has valuable expertise in anti-corruption efforts and serves as a crime lawyer.

Charles Counsell OBE:

Previously, Counsell served as the CEO of the Pensions Regulator and, before that, held the position of CEO at the Money Advice Service.

Helen Dodds OStJ:

She is a seasoned lawyer, advisor, and board member. Her prior roles include serving as the Head of Legal, Dispute Resolution at Standard Chartered Bank.

Sheree Howard:

Having over 25 years of expertise in the financial services sector, she currently holds the position of Executive Director of Risk and Compliance Oversight at the Financial Conduct Authority.

Claudia Mortimore:

Over the course of her career, she was also a barrister, handling cases related to drug, tax, and money-laundering offenses for the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office, as well as fraudulent trading offenses for the Department for Business.

Helen Phillips:

She is a seasoned executive and non-executive professional with a diverse career spanning the private, public, and not-for-profit industries.

David Rossington CB:

Rossington has held various roles within several Government departments, including serving as the Finance Director and Acting Director General for the DCMS.
