Bovada Expands Restricted Access to Kansas, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania

Bovada has recently added Kansas, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania to its list of restricted states following cease-and-desist notices from state regulators. This action further limits access to the offshore gaming operator, which now restricts users in 13 states and Washington, D.C.

Cease-and-Desist Notices Prompt Action

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC) issued a cease-and-desist notice to Bovada on July 8, 2024. Although the notice was confirmed delivered on August 20, Bovada has not officially acknowledged receipt. The KRGC's enforcement attorney, James Bain, highlighted that the notice was sent to ensure Kansas bettors are protected and to promote licensed, regulated, and taxed gaming platforms.

Similarly, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board sent a cease-and-desist notice on August 6, 2024. Chairman Christopher B. Hebert asserted that Bovada's operations in Louisiana violated state gaming laws, as the company was not authorized to offer gambling services in the state. This notice targeted Bovada's broad range of offerings, including sportsbooks, iGaming, and other casino services.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also issued a cease-and-desist letter at the end of August. Although specific details were not provided, the notice follows a pattern where Bovada's restricted list grows in response to similar actions from other states.
