IGT recently announced a licensing agreement with Gamesys that will give the latter intellectual property usage rights for a selection of game features within IGT's patent portfolio, which includes over 2,000 game feature patents across the globe.
In a press release, the company said, “IGT is the global leader in gaming. We enable players to experience their favorite games across all channels and regulated segments, from Gaming Machines and Lotteries to Interactive and Social Gaming. Leveraging a wealth of premium content, substantial investment in innovation, in-depth customer intelligence, operational expertise and leading-edge technology, our gaming solutions anticipate the demands of consumers wherever they decide to play. We have a well-established local presence and relationships...”
With licensing deal complete, Gamesys will now have the games and bonus features available on IGT slot machines within its own online portfolio of games.
"We are very pleased to reach an agreement with Gamesys to provide licensing for IGT's best-in-class game feature patents. Working in partnership with Gamesys to enhance its online games leverages our industry-leading R&D investment to deliver better games to more players," said Victor Duarte, IGT's Global Chief Product Officer, Gaming.
"This agreement with IGT allows Gamesys to utilize compelling and well established game mechanics in key jurisdictions where such IP is protected by patents. By further extending our partnership with IGT we have ensured we can benefit from their investment in R&D to develop yet more compelling, unique content for our partners and players," said Hans Elias, Head of Games Studios at Gamesys.

Intellectual property can have big payoffs in the internet age! Just look at how much Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates have earned from creating innovative software products not to mention Steve Jobs (although he is a bit more on the hardware side of the computer revolution)...I wonder what "in depth customer intelligence"...

Not to be paranoid, but I wonder just what kind of information about their customers IGT possesses, which apparently is an asset that can be traded on in such a deal.
