Vietnamese authorities have filed charges against 28 suspects for their possible involvement in a $9.1 million online gambling ring as reported by Thanh Nien News.
38-year-old Pham Huy Toan, of Ho Chi Minh City, is the suspected ring leader and the remaining 27 locals will face various gambling charges in court.
According to prosecutors, Toan has received VND 301 Billion ($13.3 million) in wagers, which he moved through 58 different bank accounts before eventually placing bets on an unknown gambling web site based in the UK. It was also reported that he received VND 727 million ($32,336) from March 2013 to July 2014 for acting as the middleman.
The local punters are said to have included government officials and students.

Obviously this was a huge criminal organization with so many people involved. It's not something unusual in this part of the world but it's huge organization even by the Asian standards. If there's a government officials as a punters we could imagine that there are some persons from the authorities involved in all that....

The amounts of money are really huge and all those transactions between so many bank accounts probably helped the investigation.

These large sums of money and the movement through all those banks is a red flag and a stupid move for someone doing what he's doing. It does say a lot about greed. I hear that most prisons in Asian countries are a real nightmare ands it is very sad to think about young students going into places such as those. I wouldn't...

I wouldn't even let gambling cross my consciousness if US laws were as strict as in many Asian countries.

I don't know why these people do that. I mean if gambling is not legal in your country just don't gamble. I am sure that everyone who gamble on that way will be arrested because is not to hard to bust them. And I don't know how they can do that hen they know even if they won they maybe can lose all money and not only lose...
