The Supreme Court of India in New Delhi will hand down a ruling on August 18th regarding an appeal that could affect online gambling in a major way.
Judges will determine whether or not online rummy is a skill game or a form of gambling after a Madras High Court deemed it a form of gambling when stakes are involved despite; however before the case making it to the Madras court, a junior court ruled that rummy is skill based and is not gambling.
According to Indian media several online rummy companies, including Play Games 24/7 Ltd and Junglee Games India Pvt. Ltd, are awaiting the decision that could greatly affect them.
The Madras High Court ruling was appealed by the Mahalakshmi Cultural Association, a Chennai-based city club.

I think this kind of games including all, there is an elements of Skill Based game but also of gambling. I don't think this is the right way to separate one game from another. Agree with all of the above comments, obviously it will be tough decision for the Supreme Court of India and whatever they decided it will be right/wrong.

I think Rummy is more like a skill game if you play it for fun (ok, and if you play it on real money but not big stakes). But when you play for promos like RummyRoyal have (like if you win 5 games in a row for prizes) I think that is a gambling. Afterall I think it should be considered a skill game.

Can't games like poker and rummy be both, skill based and gambling? I agree with iDark,"any stake at any game is gambling." Why can't they agree that when money is involved, no matter what the game, it's gambling and lets move on.

Rummy, poker, or other any online game, where player is playing versus another player is more skills, than gambling. Sure, we cannot dismiss the gambling, it is involved also. Any stake at any game is gambling, if You can't know the exact result. This is end of my story. p.s. India will determinate rummy, I'm about 80%...

Another familiar story... lets see how long this is dragged out. My gosh, doesn't online poker definition apply to Rummy, as well. If not, I'll be very interested to hear the reasons why...
