We think Vegas is always the first to have the latest games and hot new releases and when it comes to Slots that is pretty much true. Unfortunately it does not hold true for Video Poker. IGT’s AVP and Game King among the best in the business offering a wide variety of games. The question is where are they??
Here are a list of new releases and other variations:
· Barnyard Poker
· Peek & Play
· Super Times Pay Mega Progressive
· Ace Invaders
· Anything’s Wild Poker
· Back It Up Double Bonus Poker
· Big Split Poker
· Big Times Draw Poker
· Bonus Hand Triple Play Draw Poker
· Deal Draw Poker
· Double Draw Aces
· Fast Action Draw Poker
· Ultimate 4 of a Kind
· Wheel Poker
· Good Times Pay
· Random Rewards Poker
· Hyper Poker
· Stack ‘em Poker
· Crazy Times Poker
One would think if there is any place that would be on the cutting edge of having them all it would be Vegas….wrong! And if by chance you are lucky enough to find them, the nickel and dime machines are slim to none.
There are however plenty of Ultimate X, Super Times Pay, Double Super Times Pay and Spin Poker machines. Makes a Video Poker player wonder why this selection is prominent not only in Vegas but other Casinos throughout the country. Is it because the odds of winning are tougher or is it because the bet value is higher than for most standard games and this is a big attraction for Casino owners.
Super Triple Play Draw Poker is a multi-game machine. There is one game in particular that offers nice payouts – Super Double Bonus Poker.
Pay Table:
4 Aces w/2,3,4 pay 4000
4 Aces w/K,Q,J pay 3200
4 Aces pay 1600
4 2s, 3s, 4s w/A,2,3,4 pays 2000
4 2s, 3s, 4s pays 800
4 Ks, Qs, Js w/A,K,Q,J pays 1600
4 of a kind 5 – K pays 500
Looks like a great pay table but guess what?? Most Casinos have removed the Super Double Bonus Poker variation from the gaming platform. This can be pretty frustrating considering it will display this game and flash the payouts when the machine is idol. Only when you sit down, place money in the machine do you realize the game has been removed.
Why is Vegas weeding out Video Poker more and more? What happened to the Video Poker sections, they are gone and replaced with a few machines scattered here and there throughout the Casinos. What happened to Progressive Nickel Poker machines?
As a VP fan we all know the odds are much more in our favor than spinning the Slots. Perhaps that is the reason they have become far and in between

Nickel progressives used to be the big thing . Some of my family and for locals who live near casinos was and is a big favorite. Can play a bit everyday and hit a few pots monthly to keep your entertainment line running . I used to love to seek out video poker machines on my gambling trips to break up the routine of the slot machines or table games. Its a shame they are fewer and fewer . I hope they don't disappear all together .

I'm surprised to read that in Vegas some of the best video poker missing but I guess the explanation is simple: the players just have a better chance for winnings.

You nailed it, they are being removed because you spend less money to win more money. I used to live within 45 minutes of both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. I played video poker all the time. You nailed it, they are being removed because you spend less money to win more money. I used to live within 45 minutes of both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. I played video poker all the time. I would hit a royal at least once or twice every few months. Those video poker machines were always ringing and ringing, indicating another big winner. So naturally, they are going to remove the machines that pay out the most, it is the way of land based casinos. I remember at Foxwoods, before MGM moved in, they had these five dollar slot machines just inside the old valet entrance. I believe I can fairly accurately state that I would win way more than I lost playing those five dollar machines. I wasn't alone in that either. There were not many machines there, perhaps a row of ten. Naturally they were placed within hearing distance of the black jack tables, so that those playing black jack would be distracted by the noise, and also so that the black jack players would be enticed to plunk their money into the one armed bandits. Needless to say, those five dollar machines did not last long. As with any slot machines that end up paying out more than they were taking in, soon they became a thing of the past. The story remains the same with the video poker machines. Every gambler who enjoys the slot machines and has any intelligence knows that the video poker machines are the one place they can safely count on winning enough to make playing them worth the time and effort. The other slot machines pay out far less often than the video poker machines, soak up your money a whole lot faster than the poker machines, and pay out a whole lot less. So naturally, those other slots are the machines that management wants to promote. The house will always keep their edge. It does not matter how many complaints they get from the clientele either, that just lets management know they are making the right move. Now that I think about it, even in the online casinos that I play at, my record of wins is higher on the video poker machines than it is on the other slots. While it is true that the prizes on the other slot machines are much higher than anything you can win on video poker, the chances of actually hitting one of those prizes is way lower than the the amount that one can win on video poker. Video poker machines may pay less, but one's chances of winning on them are far more steady than the bigger prizes offered on the other slots.

If you look at those tickers that run across the top of the casino lobby, there are always a lot of video poker winners. That tells me video poker is popular. I'm glad I read this article. I didn't know anything like this was going on at land based casinos. I think leannep has an idea about live poker dealers competing with machines. Maybe the casino's edge goes up with a live dealer? Regardless, it still stinks. Great article, good to know info.

Interesting observations. I haven't been to Vegas...it's my dream. Because it's a people place, perhaps they like to keep the spotlight on live dealers....do people who enjoy video poker machines (myself, I would enjoy mechanical poker) ...do they find that video poker machines compete for their live tables dollars? ...I'm...

Now I know to inventory what games I want to play when I get to Vegas ahead of time.

I do believe you hit the nail on the head lips when you say As a VP fan we all know the odds are much more in our favor than spinning the Slots. Perhaps that is the reason they have become far and in between As you probably know, comp points for playing video poker are half what they are when playing slots. And at my land based casino, when they have 3x points, video poker doesn't count. Only slots do. When I get free play at the casino I always use it on video poker as the chances of getting more money back from the free play is greater.
