Adam Silver, commissioner of North America's National Basketball Association (NBA) league, expressed his belief that sports betting will eventually be legalized in the US as a means to aid state budgets and as a result increased interest from Americans.
Silver spoke at the Bloomberg Sport Business Summit and stated that the NBA betting on games and legalization.
“It’s inevitable that, if all these states are broke, that there will be legalised sports betting in more states than Nevada and we will ultimately participate in that,” Silver said, according to the International Business Times.
“If you have a gentleman’s bet or a small wager on any kind of sports contest, it makes you that much more engaged in it.
“That’s where we’re going to see it pay dividends. If people are watching a game and clicking to bet on their smartphones, which is what people are doing in the United Kingdom right now, then it’s much more likely you’re going to stay tuned for a long time.”
The NBA and its teams currently have marketing deals worked out with various gambling operators.

Lol, I love the way the article reads as if this is some new revolutionary development, citing 'increased interest from Americans' as a factor in its likely legalisation - come on, I'm pretty sure Americans have always enjoyed placing a bet on the football, basketball, hockey game etc ... they aren't just 'getting into it' because they know their cousins here in the UK are able to do this on their phones already. The US Gov must be desperate to save face when they eventually legalize what they have previously described as being a destructive activity.
