Las Vegas Sands owner Sheldon Adelson has attempted to utilize the state Attorney General in his campaign to ban online internet gambling and the Poker Players Alliance holds its position on pro-online gambling.
Over the weekend, the Washington DC publication The Hill reported that a minimum of 10 state attorney generals have signed a letter to congressional leaders and the House and Senate Judiciary committees request that Congress deem online gambling illegal.
The letter states:
“Given the inherently interstate nature of Internet gambling transactions, we anticipate that it will become increasingly difficult to effectively regulate such conduct as additional jurisdictions consider legalizing Internet gambling.”
“Having the Attorneys General letter would be a component of getting a sponsor for that bill,” John Pappas, executive director of the PPA said. He also warns that if influential states jump on the band wagon the letter could be critical.
