Non-compliant operators get punished

The news that ARJEL has sanctioned three unnamed licensed operators has been confirmed by the French online gambling regulator, which conducted regular checks after it issued first recommendations to operators, advising where adjustments needed to be made so that licensees are operating in line with the stipulated guidelines.

Following this period, under the sanction procedure outlined in Article 43 of Law No. 2010-476 on openness and competition from gambling and gambling online, ARJEL noted deficiencies in three operators and decided to put them on notice, sending notice of objections to the operators concerned as well as to the Sanctions Committee which is chaired by Thierry Tuot.

The objections in question will be revised by the Sanctions Committee, which will then pass a decision in an independent process. The decision will be based on the seriousness of the breaches and the extent of damage and benefits derived from them, and some of the penalties may be a simple warning, reduction of one year to the term of their accreditation, suspension of registration for three months, the withdrawal of approval or even 5 percent of the total turnover of the last financial year corresponding to the activities.

It was stressed by ARJEL that it takes an active part in the fight against illegal sites, and it added that it has sent 125 notices to non-approved sites which are accessible from France. So far, the regulatory body has issued 46 licenses to 33 operators.
