The seas are rough but up north the winters are rougher, so better set sail and seek out for riches to plunder. It’s not all doom and gloom that is the attraction here, though. An unusual reel setup combined with one hundred paylines makes the slot a unique gem that is worth looking up just for the novelty.

Theme

Fierce warriors, their animal companions, longships, and of course playing cards (to play on those long journeys) make up the case of symbols in this slot. There’s not really much music to talk to, though occasionally you hear a faint note played over the sound of crows, swords being drawn, or symbols clicking on their place.

All in all, Booongo has done a pretty good job with the theme, although a few animations wouldn’t have hurt the game.

Betting Options and Functions

The reel setup is a bit strange...like an inverted pyramid, sideways. The first reel has two symbol positions, and the next two have three, the one after that has four, and the last two have five each. Six reels in total with a total of 22 symbol positions…

...and through these travel 100 paylines!

So, since the combinations must always form from left to right, this means that the first reel is the most important one. It also means that the wins tend to come in massive droves, as there are only two starting positions. Given this, it is not so surprising that overall the basic wins are quite low. The most a six symbol combination is going to pay out is 500 times the line bet, which is still quite nice. However, given the many lines, you are likely to have extremely low line bit.

Features

Now the bonus games turn the tables completely! Once you get to the extra spins the reels are inverted, meaning that the leftmost reel now has five positions. Your chances suddenly got a lot better!

Three scatters are needed to launch five bonus games. Four will net you ten, and five will net you fifteen. The feature can be retriggered with just two scatters landing two more spins.

There is also a special wild reel feature. Whenever one reel is entirely covered in wilds it will select the reel on the right or the left to be filled with wilds as well. This feature is active both in basic and bonus games.

Our Take

This is not the first Vikings themed game out there, and won't be the last one. But it is amongst the few that manage to bring something else than just the theme into play. The extraordinary reel setup combined with the paylines means that this slot is not for everyone. But those who’d like to pay something different...well, here you go!
