Dwarfs, their mines, and their insatiable hunger for gold and other treasures is on the reels. Red Tiger Gaming has kept true to their commitment with excellent graphics, sounds that add to the atmosphere, and wins that are to be had with a lot of luck. Is the game itself a treasure mine, or does it fall flat due to high variance or any number of other reasons?
Theme
I am not quite sure what served as inspiration for this game, perhaps it was just the general theme of dwarfs. Certainly, there is no shortage of related work, especially so with the LOTR-lore reaching through time to new audiences. The setting is a deep mine, filled with carts, rails, and dwarven treasures. Sound effects play out whenever a feature triggers, with the player having to do with general music effects and sounds until then.
Betting Options and Functions
As the five reels are in four rows this time you can rightfully expect the game to have forty paylines, instead of the usual twenty that you find in most Red Tiger Gaming slots. The combinations have to be formed from left to right, with three to five symbols dishing out wins. The bet is channeled through the total stake button, with options from 0.20 to 500 coins. The higher end is usually limited to 60 or 100 coins by the casino and depends on denomination as well.
The variance seems to be between medium and high, with mostly the low-level symbols triggering wins. These are, of course, represented by the playing card ranks. Payouts range from 12 to 120 times your line bet. The themed symbols, in turn, offer a range between 24 and 240 times the bet, whilst the wild offers 320 times the line bet. Quite low range, and clearly the main wins can be found in the bonus features.
Features
The main bonus game is triggered by three bonus symbols. Get these on the line and the main dwarf takes a ride through the treasures tracks, collecting wins along the way. The feature ends when he reaches the end of the line, after which all wins are credited.
Apart from the above, you get three bonus features, which all interact with each other, depending what’s on the reels. There are three different wilds: the treasure, the dragon, and the dwarf. Alone they function like normal wilds, but simultaneously they can, for example, give win multipliers, extra wilds, instant wins, or any combination of these. You want all three of them at the same time to really rake in coins.
Our Take
Once again, the graphics are excellent, the animations plentiful, and the audio effects sufficient. The line wins seem a bit small, though they do trigger quite often. As it the case with most slots these days, the real wins are to be had when the bonus games trigger. This time you need all of them to trigger at once! A game worth trying, though don’t bet too heavily or the dwarf will just add to his treasury.
