Noble Gaming we don't hear too often from. And that is a shame, because they know how to come up with well-thought out video slot solutions. In this instance, we are sucked into a valuable history lesson, a tale of ancient civilization and its spirituality, coming to clash with invading European forces. This 3x5 reel game with 10 paylines is waiting to be conquered by a warrior eager to collect numerous prizes as hosts welcome you peacefully. Just, don't go all conquista on them and try to act civil. It's for the best.

Theme

The Inca civilization of Southern American regions – predominantly modern-day Peru and Bolivia – were master astronomers, mathematicians and architects. An integral part of the legendary Machu Picchu complex was a mythical Temple of the Sun – a place of sanctity where mystical ceremonies and rituals were performed and only Inca priests had access to. It consisted of Solar observatory, sacrifice chamber (yep, there were gruesome scenes in there too) and the Mausoleum. This once pivotal place of worship, now a mass tourist attraction, is a totally boss source of inspiration for a game, in this reviewer's opinion. The game's backdrops is, maybe a bit too expectedly, a pyramidal structure of the Temple with its hieroglyphs and engravings appeasing the God that is the Sun. The rest of the slot machine, well...does moderately well at capturing the spirit of the culture and its aesthetics. Low-end symbols suffer from quite a lazy design and are just basic A, J, K, Q, 9 and 10 in different colors. High value symbols depict the Incan chief, the Spanish conquistador, a llama and corn (a major Incan produce). Sacred ropes and beads is both the scatter and a wild symbol as well as the expanding scatter during the extra spin mode. Game's colors are a bit too much in-your-face and could've been subtler, whereas sound is almost nonexistent except during spinning.

Betting Options and Functions

You can easily set your betting preferences in the player's dash below the reels. Check out the paytable by clicking the “Wins” button on the left, just after the Menu button where you can control sound, quickness of spins, hotkeys and some general info. You can control on how many lines you'd like to bet by clicking on them on the left-hand side of the reels. You can also adjust the value of the coin from 20 (2 per line) to 1000 (100 per line).

Features

There are only two special features in this game and they all depend on one single symbol: the scatter that works as a wild as well. Land at least three of these and you will trigger the round of 10 extra spins, during which scatter symbols will expand and take up entire reels, making your chances of win significantly larger. Also, after every win during a main game, you will be presented with a chance to gamble your winnings by betting on a card. If you get the right color, your winnings will be doubled and if you even guess the correct suit, they get quadrupled.

Our Take

Albeit on the weak side when it comes to the visual experience (you'll see better looking slots than this in your lifetime) and with not much going on sonically, Temple of Sun has a very cool and noble (or is it Noble) idea of teaching the world about forgotten civilizations. There is one other big plus: you can play a demo version of the game with virtual funds and get the picture of the thrill it provides, but don't expect to land that scatter too often – it just isn't happening. And when you decide to wager for real, keep in mind that the more you deposit, the bigger the payout will be and as this is medium to high volatility game, it's not short of jackpots – in fact, this game has three of them: grand, maxi and mini. So it's not all just for fame and glory, but also for the riches.
