Taco Brothers was one of Elk Studios’ first big hits, and not without reason. Seems that the game was SO popular…
…they produced a sequel specifically aimed for the Christmas markets.
Unfortunately, the game doesn’t really offer much of anything new, instead just changing the theme for the season. For those who haven’t played the original, it might be a welcome slot, for those who have might just be better to walk by and settle for the original.
Theme
The original slot was all about saving tacos, and this time around the brothers are saving Christmas. Or Christmas tacos, not quite sure.
Pretty much everything is a straight copy from the first game, with some symbols changed around to fit the season of giving presents and eating delicious food. Expect a wintery scene with snow slowly piling over everything. Not a usual sight in Mexico, even if it is in Christmas slots.
Betting Options and Functions
Compared to the original the game offers a slightly increased volatility. The game doesn’t use the standard pay-lines. Instead, it has the 243 ways to win system, which drives pretty much the same function. Five reels in three rows mean that you are looking at the traditional left to right three to five symbol combinations for wins.
Bet levels can be selected by the player, and these run anywhere from 0.01 to 50 coins per spin. Snow shovels, guitars, cactuses and bottles of tequila pay up to 80 times the bet, whereas the brothers bring back up to 400 times your bet.
Features
Every time two Taco Brothers wilds are on the reels you get a free re-spin, with the purpose of landing more safes on the reels. As you can imagine, safes will launch the main special feature. The Taco Brother wilds also function like normal wilds, completing winning combinations.
Three safes launch the Wild Escape bonus game:
This comes with a possible double or triple multiplier on all wins, depending which safe is randomly blown up.
During the feature, the three brothers drop on the rightmost reel, on at a time, and attempt to make their escape to the left side of the screen. With each step…
…they launch a re-spin until they escape.
If Cpt. Diaz arrives, he imprisons the brother in question. And if you are lucky enough you will spot the senorita, who grants new free spins, or even release one of the imprisoned brothers.
With the right bet, you can really rake in the coins to save Christmas.
Our Take
The game doesn’t really offer anything for those who have played the original, nor does it really detract anything either. A new set of graphics is always nice to look at.
Whether you have or haven’t played the original you can rest assured that this version too is of excellent quality. It tends to balance wins and features to create exciting gameplay where wins land with a constant frequency. The animations and sounds are top-notch.
Try it, or try it at Christmas!
