Spitoon

There were plenty of disgusting or at least questionable things in the Wild West, but the habit of spitting leftovers from chewing tobacco has to be up there in the top ten. They even had a device designed to capture all that saliva, it was called a Spitoon. 

Choosing to name a video slot after such an instrument could have been an act of courage from Storm Gaming, but I wouldn’t bet on that. They have probably thought to make the name sound a bit like “cartoon”, because the game design is going into that direction. 

Anyway, let’s see if this game is better than its less than inspired title. 

Theme

The reels are placed inside a wooden frame that has a brick wall behind it, we could think that it’s the inside of a saloon deep into the Wild West but that depends on each player’s imagination. There is no Spitoon in sight, apart from the game title at the top of the screen. 

The symbols are all caricatures of characters that populated the untamed West back in the day: a cowboy, a cowgirl, an angry Mexican fella, a horse, a snake and some TNT. The soundtrack is as silly as the characters, adding the finishing touch to the cartoon atmosphere. 

Betting Options and Functions

The game has 5 reels and 3 rows, with 20 paylines. You have the possibility to choose how many paylines you want to bet on before each roll, so the minimum stake could be as low as 1 cent per spin. 

The maximum bet is quite low as well, you can set the coin value at no more than 25 cents, so betting on all 20 paylines would amount to a grand total of 5 dollars per spin. The most valuable symbol is the Wild West board, it can be worth 10,000 coins if you get five of them. 

Features

Living in the Wild West wasn’t easy but it should have been quite exciting, just as this game could be when the special features kick in. 

• Wheel Feature

There is a special Spitoon Wheels symbol in the game, and when you get three of them on screen you will trigger the Wheel Feature. It’s basically a Wheel of Fortune mini-game, which can bring you free spins or cash prizes. 

• TNT Feature

This feature can only be triggered by the detonator, obviously, and you will need at least three detonator symbols connected to make it work. The dynamite will blow the tiles apart, revealing special prizes. 

• Cashpot Feature

Bags filled with golden coins populated each cowboy’s imagination, and in this game they can bring you a wealth of prizes. If you get three such symbols on screen the feature triggers and you will see whole sacks of money getting emptied! 

Conclusion

Spitoon is a video slot that could appeal to a certain type of audience, but I think that Storm Gaming could have done a much better job with it. The rather awkward design is compensated by the good number of special features, but that might not be enough to make the game as enjoyable as it could be.
