Theme

Interstellar exploration a lá Tron is the theme of Space Lights. Gaming symbols are evocative and abstract: deconstructed shapes in two and three dimensions, including circles, squares, triangles, spheres, cubes, and pyramids rotate in space, all fractured and glowing. There are also two wild symbols, one standard and one sticky. The five reels are set against a starry night sky, with the clouds of the Milky Way shimmering in the background. Features

The central feature of this game, the Space Light, is active on every spin. A Portal appears atop one of the five reels at the beginning of every round, casting a yellowish light. If the top symbol on this reel takes part in a winning combination, that symbol is replaced with a sticky wild, and with a free respin, Space Light mode is activated. During this phase of game, the appearance of every new sticky wild triggers a respin – what's more, if the symbol just below a sticky wild is part of a winning combination, that symbol is transformed into another sticky wild, with the reels spinning again. This process continues, either until a spin on which no new sticky wilds appear or until the active reel is entirely filled with sticky wilds, in which case a sizable bonus prize is awarded.

Our Take

With Space Lights, Playson has achieved that rarest of slot designer goals: a game that is beautiful, original, fun to play, and reasonably profitable. Though it lacks traditional free spin mode, the Space Light feature is more than enough to vary game tempo, award big wins, and keep play interesting. Players will not have to be fans of Tron or other old-school space movies to be fans of this slot, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt matters either.
