Theme and Symbols

Sand and dunes, pyramids and famous queens. There’s a fair number of animations keeping the reels and background busy. The graphics are very nice and make you feel like it’s a comic or storybook you’re looking at. Instead of the usual soothing sounds of night-time Arabic melodies, you’re met with a rather fresh take on the genre music. Definitely an improvement over most other slots set in Egypt.

Betting Options and Functions

The game is run in ten spin cycles, which does reset btw. if you change your bet. We’ll get back to this on the special features, as that’s what it ties to. It’s still quite important for the basic functions of the game.

For your normal spins IGT presents you with 75 paylines. These are divided throughout the five reels, each with four symbols. It’s a high-end count, at least when you compare it to paylines and not ways to pay.

The game offers wins relatively often, but the wins are not all that great. The top win is 200 times the line bet, the smallest being just double your line bet. The RTP is industry standard, sitting at 96%.

Let’s start with the cycle. During each of these ten spins, you are collecting golden locks, which land on a random reel with a scarab on it. On the last spin, all these golden symbol positions will turn into wilds, giving a possibility of superb wins throughout all lines...on the next spin the cycle beings anew.

Three to four scatters open up an interesting opportunity with bonus spins and wilds. You get three choices, trading extra wilds on the reels for bonus spins. The maximum number of bonus spins is 45, the minimum five. The maximum number of wilds 15, the minimum 5. Choose carefully!

Our Take

IGT’s Scarab isn’t the first slot to seek inspiration from Ancient Egypt, but it is a welcome addition to that list of slots. The game isn’t for you if you’re seeking the biggest possible wins via the normal paytable...but if you’re into bonus spins with insane amounts of wilds, this one is worth checking out!
