Pharaohs Wild is a horror-themed slot offering a wide variety of features, including an innovative gamble option all the way into 250 000 coin max win. Twenty paylines and five reel setup make the game easy to familiarise with. The theme is that of Ancient Egypt but with a refreshing take.

Theme

Terrifying beasts and monsters lurk in the shadows, protecting the piled up treasures that feature in the background, deep in an underground vault. The theme is straight from ancient Egypt and the reels are filled with camels, ghouls, sphinxes, and werewolves. Ten to Ace card values have received a facelift to fit the game.

The music and sound effects make you feel like you are actually inside the dark crypt in search of treasures and in the vicinity of ancient terror.

Betting Options and Functions

Core Gaming is known for its wide-ranging betting options, which again range from 0.20 all the way to 500 coins per spin. As usual, the shortcoming is that to play with the max bet you need to have a bankroll to rival millionaires. It doesn’t quite fit with the high variance of the slot. Luckily the low end of betting options don’t affect the features of the game and give plenty of value to your spins. A stake of five to ten coins per spin seemed to give the best results in our test runs.

All the paylines are fixed, which makes setting the stake easy. The palines connect from left to right.

Features

The werewolf works as a wild, substituting for all other symbols. Three of them in the reels start free spins, which continue until no more wilds are on the screen. A re-triggering of the feature can happen at random, should a mummy come lurching in the background. This grants a minimum of five more spins.

Three matching symbols landing on reel one will trigger the Floating Bonus, which will copy the symbols from the first reel randomly on the other reels. A win is not guaranteed but chances of it increase dramatically.

The mummy doesn’t feature randomly only during free spins, but during the base game as well. He can come and go as he pleases, placing matching symbols all over the five reels. If these form into combinations of three the free spins will be triggered.

The gamble feature is quite elusive, as I didn’t manage to activate it once. When it does activate it gives the player even chance to double, and the chance to take a further risk with an increased multiplier.

Our Take

The only shortcoming of this slot is the low RTP, which seems to be an overall fault in many Core Gaming slots. One can’t shake the feeling that nothing it up a few percentage points would launch many of their games into overnight fame. Despite this Pharaohs Wild is an extremely interesting and well-done slot, that offers good spinning fun and plenty of replay value with the right bet.
