Mystic Wolf launched at the beginning of summer 2014 off the back of some stunning trailers and promotion from Rival Gaming. It’s fair to say that players awaited it with anticipation after other recent Rival slots left them disappointed. So will Mystic Wolf put Rival back in players good books? We reviewed it to find out.
Mystic Wolf Theme
Mystic Wolf begins with an animated scene that shows a wolf galloping through the forest and stopping at key points to howl at the moon. The reels then load and you’ll get a glimpse at the frosty reel icons that float in front go a starlit background. At this stage we weren’t overawed, especially as there are just a handful of bespoke reel icons.
Diving into the pay table revealed an even split between bespoke reel icons and Poker figures. On the bespoke side you’ll find planet Earth, a silver medallion, diamonds, three different wolf logos and a feather. Each of these is animated and some even include their own sound effects. The regular 9, 10, J, Q, K and A logos don’t offer much in the way of animation though.
Betting Options and More Functions
Mystic Wolf is a 50 line slot, but you can play with as little as a single line if you want to limit bets. In fact in combination with coin options you can wager anything from 0.01 to £125 (other currencies also available) per spin. This means most people will be able to find a suitable bet; heck, there’s even a free version available at most supporting casinos and here on LCB.
Mystic Wolf Features
Running Wolf icons are wild and carry a diary hefty 5x multiplier. This makes up for the mediocre prizes at the lower end of the pay table. These wilds also appear during the free spins bonus with an uprated 10x multiplier.
The jackpot bonus is well and truly random, so much so that the pay table doesn't even specify the prizes that could be won if it triggers. The general feeling around the interwebs is the top prize is 100x your bet, but we weren't lucky enough to trigger that much with this particular feature.
Scattered feather icons are the key to unlocking free spins. Three of these awards 7 free spins, four awards 15 and five 50 free spins. The Lunar Phase bonus could (we say this loosely as it is rare) trigger during these free spins if three dice icons appear.
During the Lunar Phase bonus you'll choose three phases of the moon. Three dice are then rolled and prize are paid if the picture shown on the dice matches your initial choice.
Our Take on Mystic Wolf
So when it comes down to it we weren’t bowled over by the graphics and would’ve preferred it if the Lunar Phase bonus was easier to trigger. Despite this we’d say this was a good (but not great) effort by Rival Gaming, what’s your verdict?
