Are you ready to rock!? I said, are you ready to r...Oh, you heard us the first time. Okay. Lightning Box gets sort of neglected at times – no wonder, really: it's the way it goes in the industry dominated by the likes of NetEnt, Microgaming, Yggdrasil and so on. And that's not entirely fair. The company that is capable of producing an 80 paylines game with a very interesting reels layout of 3-4-5-4-3 and numerous extra features certainly has our attention, so here's hoping we'll iron out this injustice by shedding some light on one of their most pivotal titles – every headbanger's favorite, Mild Rockers.
Theme
1980s rock/metal scene was exuberant and flamboyant. Everything was loud back then – not only riffs and rhythm sections but musician's choice of stage outfit as well. Mild Rockers is a bonafide homage to the decade of big hair, glam rock, and when shiny tights were considered a legitimate clothing option.
This being a very visual period, the game tries its best to emulate all the eye-candy and eye-sore of the era (both came in equal portions).
To set the tone for the excitement of being in a professional band that just skyrocketed onto charts, the backdrops of the screen depict electrifying atmosphere with an audience in ecstasy, veiled in purple haze (Hendrix, anyone?). The crowd going wild and cheering is clearly audible even through the entire course of the game. Onto reels then, and when you get a grip of the atypical and rarely used configuration of it, you will notice that it is packed with lively and exciting symbols rocking the night away in a sweating venue. The low-end symbols are the lazy card signs, delicately adorned with a detail or two that resemble rock'n'roll lifestyle. The de facto mascot of the game is the purple-haired rock chick in leather and spandex, singing her heart out, who is also the game's Wild symbol who substitutes all symbols except, you know it, the Scatter. And Scatter itself happens to be lady's kiss seal which will trigger free games. The Mild Rockers logo symbol, a fired up flying-V guitar dude, set of drums, hands-on keyboards and the shot of the fans in trance complete the set of high-value symbols that animate when the win is struck. Game's soundtrack is suitably retro-sounding but, in our book, it could have gotten a bit edgier – but hey, maybe that's the continuation of a name “Mild Rockers” and that's why it's kind of...mild. Also, it's repetitive and you will probably get sick of it in no time.
Betting Options and Functions
Wins on the reel pay left to right on adjacent reels, with the sole exception being the scatter symbol which pays on any reel. Payline wins are, of course, multiplied by the bet and scatter wins are multiplied by the number of lines played and by the bet multiplier. Game's theoretical RTP is 95.57%.
The info screen, accessible by clicking on the mechanism cog icon at the top of screen, contains all the knowledge on special symbol's abilities, the value of each symbol, the rules of the game and payout method and cashout diagram for all 80 lines. It will also let you set the amount of bet – from 0.01 to 2.5. Autoplay option is also at hand, with the maximum amount of auto spins you can set is 100. At the very top, there are the total balance, total bet and win disclaimers so you can have an easy overview of your funds.
Features
The game's extra features are pretty much rotating to one singular tune: the extra spins. As we've said before, lipstick kiss seal is the Scatter symbol which will trigger the extra spins mode of 8 spins whenever 3, 4, 5 or 6 of these symbols land. And should another one of those land during the extra spins mode, it will grant an additional, Encore Spin! During these Encore Spins, the Mild Rockers logo symbol will change appearance and will become Stacked Wild, substituting all symbols. As you realize, now you have two Wild symbols in the game, which can be pretty fruitful and lucrative.
Our Take
Mild Rockers is an entertaining slot game with a scarcity of special features, that's true, but due to its favorable layout with 80 paylines, the wins will keep coming and coming. Game's design is unique and well put together, likely appealing even to those who are not fond of the particular musical genre or era. With high payouts and engaging atmosphere, everyone should play this game at least once during their slot spinning lifetime.
