Mermaid Reef

Not all reefs are mermaid reefs, and at first look the setting here looks a bit empty of mythical creatures too. But stick around a bit longer, dive a bit deeper and you’ll notice what secrets are hidden under the corals.

Theme and Symbols

The game is set underwater, the reels flanked by corals and other growth found in the seas. An animated cartoon would go a long way in explaining the look of the game, and we must admit that it would be hard to present the theme in any other style. 

Animations are surprisingly plentiful, and the sound effects especially welcoming. We’d have expected a bit more creatures, fishes and such, to cover the reels, but what’s there works just as well. 

Betting Options and Functions

The RTP is about 95.92%, which is close enough to what we consider the industry standard of 96%.

What really matters is how that return is tied into the wins. Here you can score up to a thousand times your line bet. There are ten paylines, working from left to right. This is a pretty solid choice if you’re looking for a slow bet vs. big wins situation.

Variance is set somewhere between medium and high, and the chance to score the special features is definitely on the higher end of that scale. How do they change the gameplay?

Features

...you’ve got three features, of which two can be said to be special.

Let’s start with the gamble feature. This is a very traditional function, and present on most ReelPlay slots. It simply allows for doubling of win with a 50 - 50 chance.

Now, the first actual special comes into play with the help of scattered pearls. Three, four and five of these will award 10, 15 and 20 bonus spins. For the duration of these spins all wins are doubled. Good enough, especially as the top win suddenly becomes 2000 times the line bet.

But probably the more interesting feature comes in the form of scattered clams. Three of these are needed to launch the pick-a-win feature. Fifteen closed clams are brought to the reels. The player picks through the clams until he chances upon a black pearl, which ends the feature. White and golden pearls pay a prize and continue the feature. The top win from any pearl is 1000 times your bet!

Our Take
