There are not many surprises when it comes to Mega Joker from Novomatic. It is a classic slot resemblant of the industry’s beginnings. Featuring an array of widely recognizable symbols, the game is neither inventive nor boring. It just is.

Theme

Fruit, sevens, and the joker are pretty much all there is to the slot. The graphics are colorful, the soundtrack “beeping” (at times it can get way too overbearing)… As for the rest, just expect classic options and buttons. Feature-wise, Mega Joker offers the extras 99% of all slots do, minus one (see below for details). In short, it is basic.

Mega Joker is a 5-reel, 40-payline slot. The betting range is from $0.01 to $2 per spin. The RTP stands at 96%. Only one coin per line can be wagered. The jackpot is 32.000 credits.

Regular symbols comprise lemons, cherries, oranges, plums, watermelons, grapes, pears, strawberries, and 7s.

Payouts:

• Lemons, cherries, oranges, and plums pay out 8, 40, and 200 coins for 3, 4, and 5 symbols, respectively; 
• Watermelon and grapes pay out 16, 80 and 320 coins for 3, 4, and 5 symbols, respectively; 
• Pears and strawberries pay out 40, 120, and 480 coins for 3, 4, and 5 symbols, respectively;
• 7s pay out 40, 160, and 800 coins for 3, 4, and 5 symbols, respectively.

All wins pay left to right.

Features

Mega Joker features three extras: the wild, the (crippled) scatter, and the gamble feature.

The Joker symbol acts as the game’s wild. The jester can cover the entire screen and thus participate in multiple winning combinations. Customarily, the wild substitutes for all symbols except for the scatter, and also pays out in its own right. Lining up 3, 4, and 5 Jokers will award you 80, 400, and 4.000 coins, respectively.

The star symbol is the scatter. Lining up 3, 4, and 5 of these will award you 320, 1.600, and 32.000 coins, respectively. That’s pretty much the only thing Mega Joker’s scatter does. There is no bonus game.

The gamble feature:

The slot, however, does have the gamble feature, which can be activated any time a win has been scored. Simply click the “Gamble” button to activate it.

There’s nothing much in terms of surprises here either. You will get to choose the color of the next card to be drawn. If you guess correctly, the wager will double. If you don’t – you’ll lose it. More or less, it’s the same as with all other slot gamble features, as far as we’ve seen. Whatever the outcome, you’ll be teleported to the base game immediately afterwards.

Our Take

We’ve pretty much stated our verdict already. Novomatic’s Mega Joker doesn’t feature a single outstanding extra. Neither the visuals nor the soundtrack are even close to being anything more that mediocre. All in all, the game may be worth a go or two, but we wouldn’t bet our bottom dollar anyone is actually binge playing it. Give it a spin for free; maybe you’ll be the one to prove us wrong!
