Celebrate springtime with this whimsical, somewhat silly, well-designed game. Lucky Easter is a modern slot with smart design and plenty of fun features. With five reels, 20 paylines, abundant bonus features, solid animation, and a charming theme for base play, there is a lot to like in this game. Its drawbacks are similar to those found in other Red Tiger Gaming titles – there are many interesting and well-designed bonus features, but one can spend a great deal of time in base play without seeing much of them.

Theme

A charming suburban setting provides the theme for this game, with blue skies, green grass, and green trees framed on either side by a picket fence and a big Easter basket. During big wins and bonus play, the lighting turns a pastel purple. The soundtrack is well-made and well-designed, responding with sound effects to gameplay in real time: the only consistent background music is the chirping of birds. An animated, somewhat punk-rock Easter bunny (wearing a neckerchief and armed with a carrot-filled bandolier) acts as the gaming tour guide, sometimes hopping across the screen to trigger bonuses, at times ushering in mini games, sometimes appearing on the reels. Gaming symbols include fat carrots (with a bite already taken out), cupcakes with rabbit ears, an overflowing Easter egg-shaped basket, a frosted cake, the playing-card symbols valued ace through ten. The Lucky Easter game title (a wreath made of carrots), a basket of eggs and the Easter egg hunt tile both act as separate scatter symbols and a hatching chick, which is the game’s wild symbol.

Betting options, functions, and features

As is typical of Red Tiger Gaming titles, the bet size has a vast range, with a low of .20 and a high limit of 500 times the betting currency. There is an auto-spin feature and an in-depth explanation of pay structure, but aside from those minor interactions, player action is limited to the spin button and some choices within some bonus games.

The bulk of what makes this game interesting occurs in bonus features, which are varied. The two rarest and most lucrative are triggered by appearances of scatter symbols on the reels: three egg basket free spin symbols set up the reels for free spins. Players choose from several eggs to reveal the number of spins, up to a maximum of 16; while, when the Easter egg hunt symbol appears in triplicate, a series of increasingly valuable bonuses opens up, with the optimum outcome a whopping 800x multiplier of bet size.

Several other bonuses are triggered at random, brought on by the Easter bunny’s surprise appearance on the reels. Some of these include a massive three-by-three wild symbol taking over the middle reels; a rain of wild hatching egg symbols; and a mini-parade of high-value symbols across the rails; and an Easter picnic basket filled with goodies and a win multiplier that can reach as high as 20x.

Our Take

Without question, Lucky Easter is lovingly-crafted and well-made. Animation, bonus features, and sound are all outstanding… the only question is how much time is a player willing to spend in base play without seeing the highest-value payouts that bonus features have to offer. For those with the requisite patience and bankroll, this game comes recommended, but its limitations keep it from becoming a classic.
