I’m not gonna lie: the very first thing that pops to my mind when looking at this slot is the movie Finding Nemo. Given the similarities with the Little Fantail himself, it’s quite clear that that is where the influence stems from. The other qualities of the game are pretty much standard GamingSoft stuff. Jackpots, free spins, normal reel setup, and a couple of bonus features thrown in.
Theme
The game is set in an underwater location, and the reels filled with aquatic symbols. Well, aquatic plus the usual playing card ranks. The setting itself seems to be an aquarium rather than the deep sea, at least when judging by the different graphics. There’s a bit more music in the play than usual, whereas not so many sound effects for wins and spins. The theme is pretty much working as a background for a standard set and doesn’t offer much beyond that.
Betting Options and Functions
Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary here either, as the systems used here are similar to the ones used on most GamingSoft slots. The selected bet is easily chosen, and possibilities run from low to high. In other words, you can pretty much play with any sum you desire. The five reels are divided into four rows, which in turn have forty paylines running through them. Symbol combinations have to run from left to right in order to count for a win.
The wins here are actually a fair bit higher than in most other slots from this same producer. Though the playing cards pay back roughly what you bet, the other symbols are a bit more generous, two of the top symbols both pay back 400 times the debt. The most valuable symbol is the wild, which pays out up to 1000 times the bet when five are on the screen simultaneously.
Features
The scatter appears on reels 2,3, and 4, and when all three are present you will be granted free spins. During the free spins, the wild reel mode activates, which also locks in place for the duration of the free spins. On top of the free spins, you also get twice your total bet as an instant payment for the three scatters.
There are four jackpots, like in most other games by the same company. Mini, minor, major, and grand jackpots all pay out in relation to your bet. In order to claim the full jackpot, you need to be playing with the full bet, which is a bit discouraging. The jackpots are awarded via the jackpot game, which is entirely random.
Our Take
The game theme is a bit of a failure. If you can’t release an actual licensed game, why try with this kind of obvious copy of theme? In the end, Little Fantail doesn’t really offer anything that wouldn’t be available in plenty of other slots as well. Graphically and musically the game isn’t quite up to modern standards either. If you must try, do so in demo mode.
