This is not a slot that follows traditions in any way, except perhaps those found in certain cuisines. The Danish studio Magnet Gaming is quite new to the markets, and it’s quite refreshing to find their product to be innovative and experimental. How does the gameplay out though, and is it worth spinning? If you can accept the high variance you should find out. On top of big wins, the game comes with two jackpots.
Theme
Enter the kitchen of a French chef ready to serve some snails and other treats. The game offers some interactivity with this, and the bonus games will transport you to different sections of the chef’s residence, satisfying food critics appetite as well as doing the dishes. Music and sound effects give the feeling that you are indeed in a restaurant. The symbols and bonus games fit the theme perfectly, and nothing feels forced on the reels. An all-around solid theme.
Betting Options and Functions
The reel setup is quite unusual here. What you see on the screen is a three times three setup. Combinations can run from left to right, from up to down, and from corner to corner, for a total of eight different paylines. Three symbols are needed for a winning combination.
There are six main symbols and four symbols for bonus games. Croissants, soup, cheese, cake, chicken and lobster pay from 80 to 1200 times your total stake per spin. The player gets to choose a bet level and the worth of each credit. Though the latter might be up for the casino to decide as well. Every time you win a multiplier is added to the game and a respin awarded. These keep going with consecutive wins and reset with no win.
There are two jackpots, both progressive. These are triggered at through the bonus features.
Features
There are four distinctive bonus games in the slot. In Pick a Dish bonus game you get three choices to make your pick among a dozen or so covered plates. You can decide to keep your first or second choice or try your luck again, though this means you might change the prize for a worse one as well. You can also find symbols for other bonus games.
In the Kitchen Time bonus feature, you get twenty or so spins, during which your purpose is to fill the soup bowls. This will reward you with credit wins in increasing amounts, and if you are lucky enough with the chance to win one of the two jackpots. Do notice that you can land normal symbols as well as bonus symbols during this game, meaning that you can land the Pick a Dish bonus game, then pick the Kitchen Time bonus game through that, and thus receive extra spins. This makes the jackpot game all the much easier. If you are lucky enough.
In the Food Critic bonus, your mission is to come up with dishes by combining ingredients. Don’t worry though, no actual cooking is involved as the critic randomly likes or dislikes the choices. Just as in real life. This bonus game too offers the possibility to win the jackpot.
The fourth and final bonus game is the Bon Appetit, during which you move around the board serving dishes and collecting credits.
Our Take
Le Chef is a surprisingly well-done game, with a theme that is present throughout the game. Though everything is, of course, pre-determined via RNG it still manages to give the impression that it is an interactive slot. Not many, if any, other slots manage the same.Definitely worth trying!
