The Honeymooners

A fabulous slot steeped in television history, The Honeymooners is a five-reel, three-line, 20-payline slot themed around the classic show of the same name. Ralph Kramden would have loved this chance to get rich quick, but now it’s the player’s turn to earn some serious ‘funny money.’ The design team at 2By2 Gaming has a hit on their hands.

Theme

Right down to the theme music, The Honeymooners has nailed the aesthetic of the 1950s classic. Gaming symbols are drawn from the original series, including an old-style bus, a kitchen table scene, the characters Ralph, Alice, and Art, and playing card symbols valued ace through ten, each accessorized with loving detail in Kramden family fashion. The scatter symbol is a vintage television set, complete with tuning dials and the ‘rabbit ears’ antenna. There are several bonus games in which additional symbols appear, usually of high value, including bringing pink bonus tiles, win multipliers, golf balls, and dollar bills flying out of the reels. The bright moon looks down over all, with the Brooklyn skyline of the tv show in the background.

Betting Options, Other Functions, and Features

In this slot, betting range is neither especially narrow nor broad, with a minimum bit size of .20 and a maximum of 20 units of the betting currency. Unusually, the pace cannot be sped up, and there is no auto-spin feature: it’s clear that the design team wanted players to savor their work. 

It’s work worth savoring. The base play features stacked wilds in reels one, three, and five, appearing in the form of the game logo. Scatter symbols, the vintage tv’s, appear on reels two and four – when they show up on both reels at the same time, bonus play is triggered. The team at 2By2 outdid themselves where bonus features are concerned: there are five distinct bonus games to be played, each in the guise of a “TV Episode”. Showcasing a theme from the tv show “Funny Money,” disperses dollar bills across the screen, awarding coins to the player. In “Get Rich Quick,”  the player chooses from four hidden prizes; “Hello Ball,” in which a rolling golf ball turns one of the five reels into a stacked wild and triggers a free spin for the other four. “Floating Wild,” offers the free spin first, then adds wild symbols to the reels second; and “Will of Fortune,”  replaces the vintage tv symbols with triple bonus multipliers, then offers a free spin with this opportunity to win big. There are also Wild Multiplier and Wild Free Spin features, activated by bonus symbols on reels two, three, and four. 

Our Take

The Honeymooners has it all: smooth, exciting base play; plenty of bonuses, wilds, and free spins to keep things lively; plenty of ways to win; and on top of it all, a delightful theme executed with loving attention to detail. Fans of the classic show will find a lot to like here, and though game purists who prefer substance over style can rightly object to a lack of auto-spin and high-speed features, this title nevertheless comes very highly recommended.
