I have to admit that I am not quite up to date about the Four Divine Beasts, which probably means that the theme comes outside of Western influences. A bit of googling reveals that this might have something to do with Zelda, so perhaps the beasts are just a story dreamt up by Habanero developers. Whatever the case, from the first look onwards the game shows quite a promise.
Theme
Wherever these divine beasts come from is up for debate. What is clear though is that they are magnificently done and presented on the screen. The audio side of things isn’t so spectacular, and in fact, a bit lacking. The setting, that is to say, the background is some sort of jungle, nature or wasteland. The symbols are mainly playing cards with the beasts taking the centre stage. Overall, the theme feels, not unfinished, but a bit lacklustre, yet what is there is well done.
Betting Options and Functions
The game uses the 243 ways to win system, which means that the symbols need to connect from leftmost reel onwards. The range of payouts is a bit low compared to most other Habanero games, topping out at 500 times the bet. On the other hand, the difference is made up with the generous amounts of free spins the game dishes out. Betting is done with the usual style - simply select coin values and bet level and adjust for your bankroll.
Features
Wilds and scatters function like they do normally, with the exception that they are only present in the base game. Each beast comes with their own free spins and in order to activate those you usually need to have either the scatter in force or the wilds on screen. For example, the Azure Dragon freespins start when the dragon himself and three scatters show up on the reels.
In the case of the Azure Dragon, the player receives seven free games. These come with the chance of the Tree symbol acting as a wild and guaranteed to show up. It also expands to cover the entire reel when part of a winning combination.
The Vermillion Bird comes with the same seven freespins, but this time around you get wilds that spread around from their original position. The White Tiger free spins, in turn, come with guaranteed wilds that move around the screen. The Black Turtle is the final beast, and during these seven freespins, the wilds expand into different directions.
All of the beasts come with completely random respins. These come two at a time and offer the same features as the free spins.
Our Take
Four Divine Beasts is an interesting slot and it comes with plenty of different options for free spins. Though the theme is a bit hollow in the end the game is still worth the money thanks to the gameplay features working excellently. Give this one a go in demo mode first.
