Sometimes there’s no improving upon a true classic – this is the ethos of the delightfully retro BigFroot slot from Saucify. Theme

The reclusive, smoothie-loving BigFroot (a pun on the mythical ‘bigfoot’) is a this game’s hero: it’s his world, we’re just playing in it. Looking as if McDonald’s Grimace character has been hitting the gym, this purple beast acts as the wild symbol in this slot, substituting for other symbols to make winning combinations while also doubling the payout on winning combinations. The five reels are situated in his cave, bordered on one side by a crude sign reading “Keep Out” and a waterfall on the other. Most other gaming symbols reflect BigFroot’s enthusiasm for fruit smoothies: they include watermelons, lemons, cherries, grapes, oranges, plums, and of course, a large blender, which acts as one of two scatter symbols. The other is a robotic smiling face (don’t ask what this android is doing in the cave). There are also the playing card symbols, valued ace through jack. The soundtrack stays true to the retro feel, falling silent between spins and invoking the late 1980s when the reels are in motion.

The bonus features of this game lack the imagination of the game design. For all of that, however, with a whopping ten non-wild, non-scatter symbols, it takes a lot of spins for those big wins to come around. Giving respect to the great classics of gaming is always to be appreciated, and this stylish, witty game is no exception. Where substance is concerned, however, this slot comes up rather short.
