Boongo is a company originating from Curacao, yet also with presence in Europe in Asia. It’s the latter that they use as an inspiration for a lot of their slots. This is quite refreshing in a market where most other producers use the same old themes, mostly originating from Europe. 88 Wild Dragon draws inspiration from Chinese symbols and mythology for some fireworks and plenty of exciting spins.

Theme

Magical portals, otherworldly creatures, wild dragons, and the feeling of powerful ancient Chinese serves as the inspiration to 88 WIld Dragon. The music and sound effects are familiar for us westerns, and even though there’d be some room for improvement they do fill their purpose well enough. The animations and graphics are top notch and they bring both the game and the background into life. Even the low-level symbols are themed so well you won’t instantly recognise what they are.

Betting Options and Functions

The game uses the same mechanics as most other slots from the same producer. Twenty paylines, and a total stake controller to set your bet. Bet per line can range anywhere from 0.01 to 5 full coins, raising the maximum stake per spin to 100 coins. Variance seems high and the RTP is decent enough.

Pay combinations run from left to right and require three to five symbols to complete. There’s plenty of variation with the payouts throughout the ten symbols. Low-level icons, which are the card ranks, rewards max out at 80 times your line bet, the middle ones offer up to 300, and the two top symbols offer 500 and 1000 coins. With three symbol combinations, the range throughout all symbols is from 7 to 60 coins.

Features

There are two portals on the screen, on the second and fourth reels. When any two identical symbols drop in these places the special Red Dragon emerges from another dimension. No need to be afraid of destruction and the world ending in fire, as he is here to help by spilling random wilds all over the reels.

Should two black dragons land on the portals free spins are launched instead of extra wilds. Fifteen is what you’ll get before the dragons disappear again, or in other words, the feature cannot be retriggered. During the feature wilds only appear in the middle reels.

Our Take

This is quite a normal slot, even though the RTP is a few percentile short of the industry standard. The payouts are nice, the wilds and free spins add a bit of extra, and the bet level leaves plenty of room to maneuver. More could have been done with the concept, though the fresh music, graphics, and theme make up for this. Give it a go and summon the dragons!
