Nicarao's Casino

Known as the cradle of Nicaraguan folklore, Masaya has several areas of interest for travelers passing through the region, aside from the casino. For 19th century architecture, visit the historical site El Coyotepe or one of several churches such as San Jeronimo, San Juan, San Miguel or Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion. If you prefer seeing your history indoors there’s the Museo de Heroes y Martires located in the town hall. For beautiful and unique geographical features head to the open area El Malecon, with its views of the Masaya Lagoon and Masaya Volcano. When you’re interested in shopping there’s El Mercado Viejo for handicrafts and La Plazita de Monimbo for exotic foods.

Gaming

The casino is a little light on gaming, but sometimes after long afternoons walking the city, a little respite is all you need. There’s a total of 50 slot and video poker machines and an additional 8 table games consisting of blackjack and roulette. The casino is open from 1 pm until 4 am daily. Try your hand at cards and a few 21s might pay for all those interesting souvenirs you’re keen on picking up at the markets.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site. The closest to the casino is about 1 km out and is the Madera’s Inn. Rooms here come in singles, doubles and triples and come equipped with cable television, air conditioning and/or fans and wireless internet. Amenities include a fitness centre and services include airport shuttle and tour services. Dining

For American cuisine, there’s Aeropuerto 79 with such menu items as deer, rabbit and even armadillo. Che-Gris also serves up American fare but consists of the more traditional menu items like meats, seafood and vegetarian dishes. If you’re looking for Mexican cuisine, there’s La Jarochita with its tacos, stew and seafood. Chapo’s Bar and Grill serves steaks grilled outdoors. Trek about the city yourself and find your own venue dishing up authentic Nicaraguan cuisine.

Attractions/NightLife

Karaoke is on Wednesdays at La Ronda with its daily happy hour. Sing along or cheer for your favourite contenders. For reggae music there’s El Toro Loco as well as at Chapo’s Bar and Grill. If you want to kick off your heels, Coco Jamboo is a dance club, located in the south end of the Malecon. To take in panoramic views of the city visit El Coyotepe and to see the Masaya Volcano and Masaya Lagoon head to El Malecon. When looking for souvenirs, handicrafts are sold at El Mercado Viejo market. For architecture hit any one of several churches scattered about the region and for museums there’s Museo de Heroes y Martires in the Alcaldia de Masaya (town hall) or the Volcan Masaya National Park with its museum as well as bat caves.
