Villahermosa, or ‘beautiful village’, is the capital city of the Mexican state of Tabasco. The population is just over the 650,000 mark by last consensus, and like most large cities, you can find several things to do here to keep you entertained, whether you happen to be here for holiday or just passing through en route to another city (like Cancun or Mexico City for example – you’re about half way between the two). If you happen to be travelling with family, you might want to check out the local zoo in La Venta Museum-Park or the planetarium (Planetario Tabasco 2000). When it’s adult time, head into the casino for a session of gambling.

There’s several restaurants around the city so you shouldn’t have many problems finding venues dishing up authentic Mexican cuisine. Several also dish up seafood dinners. Places to check out include Horchata la Catedral and Los Camales. You can always ask hotel and casino staff to point you in the direction of places popular with locals and tourists or wander about choosing your own favourite restaurants.

Attractions/NightLife

Like most large cities, there’s several bars and clubs about. For dancing, there’s Orishas, B Fore and Mambo Café. If you’re looking for live music try the Villa Pub. If you just feel like relaxing to your favourite cocktails there’s La Bohemia de Manrique. There’s a few options when interested in checking out the indigenous flora and fauna. Tshumka is a 101 hectare park and ecological reservation, also with a lagoon. Tours are available. Other parks include La Choca Park, the Tomas Garrida Park and the La Venta Museum-Park. The La Venta Museum-Park also has a small zoo as well as a collection of Olmec artefacts. Other areas of interest include the Plaza de Armas (main square), the Zona Luz (city square), the Museum of the History of Tabasco, the Papagayo Children’s Museum, the Esperanza Iris Theatre, the Planetario Tabasco 2000 and the Catedral del Senor de Tabasco.
