Torreon, a city located in the Mexican state of Coahuila, has a population of about 610,000 people. The city, along with Lerdo and Gomez Palacio, make up what is known as the Comarca Lagunera, or La Laguna, a basin in the Chihuahuan Desert. Three dry lagoons in the area, the Lagoon of Tlahualilo, the Lagoon of Viesca, and the Lagoon of Mayran are what led to the region’s name. If you’re inclined to drive, and looking for more attractions, specifically those of a historic nature, head into San Pedro de las Colonias, about 35 miles out. There are however, attractions within the city worth checking out. Start at the museums where you can better understand some of the local history and culture.

Gaming

After trekking about the city and its surrounding metro area, head into the casino for some much needed R and R and enjoy their selection of classic and video slot machines, coming in varying denominations. For those who prefer to unwind to a bit of bingo, try the electronic bingo terminals. If you’d sooner cheer on your favourite horses and sports teams, look to the casino’s sportbook. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time, you’re sure to be able to enjoy the afternoon in out of the sun as you try to boost your bankroll.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site. Try the Fiesta Inn Torreon Galerias Hotel, located within the Galerias Laguna shopping centre. It provides easy access to quick eats in their food court, as well as for shopping when needing supplies. You can also take in a movie for a bit of respite. The hotel offers rooms equipped with 2 double beds or a king sized bed and have 29” televisions. The local airport is about 5 minutes away. Spend time talking to staff to gain insight into all the nearby attractions so as to best maximize your Torreon holiday. Staff could also recommend great local eateries and popular bars and clubs close to the hotel and casino.

Dining

There are plenty of venues dishing up authentic Mexican cuisine, as well as various international fare, like Japanese, Chinese, Arabian and French. Los Farolitos, since 1965, serves up classic Mexican dishes. Try ‘vampiro’, the house specialty. If you like tacos, Tio Taco offers over 25 different types. Feel like something with a bit more substance? Enjoy steaks in either Los Adobes, also with live music, or Steak Palenque, though you might want to make reservations for the latter. Menu items like pastas, pizzas, soups and salads, can be found in Italianni’s.

Attractions/NightLife

There are a couple regional festivals worth checking out if you happen to be in the area around autumn. The Cotton and Grape Fair (Feria del Algodon y La Uva), with its bull-fighting, live music, amusement park-style rides and cultural events, occurs in September. The Laguna Drumfest showcases local and international drummers and occurs in October. During days, visit one or all of the local museums and travel through Mexican history. These include the Museo Regional de la Laguna, the Museo de la Revolucion and the Museo Arocena. All are open Tuesdays through Sundays, closed Mondays. For religious sites and structures, check out the Cristo de las Noas, the third tallest statue of Jesus Christ found in Latin America, which stands at 71.5 ft. You can find it on the hill Cerro de las Noas, also with a Catholic church, providing great panoramic views of the city below. Come nightfall, head to one of the bars or clubs for dancing or to rub shoulders with the locals. Some include Kpital and D-Var, or Cantares, which also has live music.

Rewards/Deals

The casino does not currently have a player’s reward system in place. Be sure to talk to a casino representative about any possible promotions or contests which might be running during your visit.
