Escobedo, formerly General Escobedo, is a city in Nuevo Leon and part of the metropolitan area of Monterrey, where there’s plenty of dining options, attractions, accommodations and night life. The population is around 300,000, and the area is surrounded by mountains, great for picture-taking or an afternoon out for some hiking and mountain climbing. The Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains, part of the National Park, include canyons and trails and outdoor enthusiasts should be able to experience some pleasant afternoons out. Also try La Estanzuela State Park and the El Potrero Chico Climbing Area.

There are no hotels on site. Head to the Sheraton Ambassador Hotel. The hotel offers its guests 229 over-sized guest rooms, equipped with HD LCD tvs, and wireless high speed internet access. Business travelers can make use of their business centre and 11 meeting rooms which have 10,200 sq ft of available space. Their Grand Ballroom can host up to 750 people. Facilities include a health club, outdoor swimming pool and solarium. There’s also a bar and restaurant on site, making your drinking and dining options convenient by not having to look through the city. Ask about their Sheraton Club with its preferred floors, upgraded amenities, a Club Lounge, and free bottled water.

Dining

Be sure to sample all the best cuisine Mexico has to offer, especially some of the more region-specific dishes. Try the machaca (shredded beef and scrambled eggs) or the tacos de trompo (smoky pork, chilis and pineapple). Try the molito de hongos (chicken and mushroom mole) and other dishes in Fonda San Francisco. Southern Mexican classic fare and comfort foods are served in La Casa de Maiz. If you’re seeking Italian, there’s Iannilli. Vegetarians should head to La Zanahoria. Ask about their beregena ggratinada. It’s eggplant with tomato and cheese.

Attractions/NightLife

Head along Barrio Antiguo, full of bars and night clubs, or try Kokoloco or Skizzo Electroclub. For live Trova, jazz and blues music, try La Tumba. Back at the hotel, you can find a bar as well. Stroll through some of the city’s green areas, such as can be found in Gran Plaza or Macroplaza. Check out the indigenous flora as well as some 174 species of butterfly in Chipinque Park (Parque Ecologico Chipinque). Tour the local museums like the Museo Regional de Nuevo Leon, the Horno3, Museo del Vidrio, Centro Cultural Alfa and Museo del Noreste. Spend time hiking trails, or rock or mountain climbing in one of the parks or specifically in the El Potrero Chico climbing Area. If you simply want to unwind, sip drinks pool-side back at the hotel.
