Le Grau-du-Roi is a French commune in the department of Gard and the region of Languedoc-Roussillon. Locals are called Graulens or Graulennes. There are several attractions in and around the area, many of which focus on the sea and port. Port Camargue is one of the largest ports in Europe and a popular tourist draw. Visit the harbour, second when it comes to fishing the French Mediterranean, or hit either the Seaquarium or Sea Museum. Bring your camera for the Espiguette lighthouse, built in 1869. If bull-fighting is your thing, head to one of two local arenas, which also host various cultural events.

Dining

Dine in Le Terr’Agua serving traditional cuisine, with menu items changing with the season. The restaurant is open daily year-round, with a seating capacity of 160 indoors and an additional 60 seats on the terrace. There’s also Restaurant Des Grands Jeux, serving regional fare. Ask about their Croq & Play, where quick eats are served to you at your favourite machine.

Attractions/NightLife

Find all your favourite cocktails in Bar Des Jeux. To sip drinks out in the open air, head to Le Patio. Other bars in the area include L’Estambord, Le Catamaran, and for dancing, the Roxy Slow Club. Find any number of outdoor activities like cycling and hiking or sunning at the beach. Try tennis, archery, mini-golf and horseback riding. Watch bullfights in the arena (also hosting cultural events), the Carmague races or visit the zoological and botanical nature reserve of Carmague. If you don’t mind the drive, there’s the Demoiselles Cave about 70 km out. Head to the harbour and see the daily fishing haul or the port watching the boats come in. Take photos of the lighthouse, dating back to 1869. Next to it you can find the local cultural centre. Take the kids to the Seaquarium and Sea Museum. For religious sites there’s the Saint-Pierre church.
