Sheraton Cairo Hotel, Towers and Casino

Granted, not a lot of people travel to Egypt to hit up the casinos. But when you’re there, it’s certainly nice to hang back and spin for a bit, especially after spending long days touring a large city and you just need to put your feet up. Pop into Sheraton Cairo Hotel, Towers and Casino for some light gambling, or hit the gaming floor during your stay; you might just appreciate the downtime, considering all the things you may be doing. If you’re more the indoors type, try the museums like the Coptic Museum or the Egyptian Museum. If you’re more inclined to take a hands-on approach, take a tour of the Pyramids of Giza or the Sphinx. For mosques, try the Citadel and Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha or Al-Azhar Mosque. Close to the Citadel is also the Hanging Church (Church of the Virgin Mary). For parks and gardens, there’s Al-Azhar Park,Hadiqat Al Azbakiya, Genenet El Asmak and El Hadiiqa El Dawliya. If you’re with the kids, be sure to hit up the Giza Zoo and Magic Land.

Gaming

The casino is a little light on its offerings with just 24 slots and video poker machines, but there an additional 11 tables games including blackjack, mini-baccarat, poker and American roulette. With so much walking and sight-seeing available in the city, you may really appreciate a little time in the casino unwinding.

Hotel/Accommodations

The hotel has 650 rooms, including 82 suites and has 5 non-smoking floors and provides exceptional views of the River Nile or city view. Rooms come with satellite tv, air conditioning, internet access, free newspaper, and 24 hour room service. The hotel is close to some major local attractions like the Cairo Opera House, the Egyptian Museum, and about 20 minutes from the Giza Pyramids. Talk to hotel staff about arranging tours, other nearby attractions, and recommendations on great local eateries.

Dining

There are several dining options for the hungry traveller. For international dishes, try Arrous El Nil, open 12-12. For Asian fare, choose either Aladin with its live entertainment, or El Mawardy, also open noon until midnight. For Japanese fare specifically, there’s Sapporo Teppanyaki (12-12), and for light bites deli-foods go to Café Complet, 8 am until 2 am. Chat up hotel and casino staff about other local popular eateries or walk into the city and find your own serving up authentic Egyptian cuisine.

Entertainment/Nightlife

There’s several bars and nightclubs in Cairo. Try Tea Garden, with its American cuisine and live entertainment, open 24 hours, Stiletto Lounge open from 7 pm until 4 am, or Z Pub, open 12 to 12. If you like to spend your days shopping, head over to Khan El Khalily with its crafts, spices and exotic perfumes and haggle yourself some awesome souvenirs. If you’re with the kids be sure to hit the Giza Zoo and Magic Land, an amusement park, or spend the day in the Pharaonic Village. Book a camel ride through the Giza Pyamids or past the Sphinx. Stroll through the parks and gardens like the Cairo Botanical Gardens. Check out Abdeen Palace, home of the last Egyptian king.
