Le Meridien Doula Hotel & Casino

Douala is the largest city in Cameroon and has a population of around 3 million people, if you include its surrounding area. It’s also home to the largest port in Cameroon. Europeans first came here back in 1472 and by 1960 became independent. A couple points of interest here include the Hotel Akwa Palace, the Douala water park (great for families) and La Pagode but you might be more interested in heading over to Limbe, with its selection of beaches and markets. Check out Kribe Beach and the Lobe Waterfalls and grab some souvenirs while here to bring back home, like African masks and handicrafts.

The casino unfortunately, is really rather very small by most standards and has a paltry selection of gaming machines – just 12 slots and video poker terminals. You can find an additional 5 table games, which include poker, blackjack and roulette. Try your hand in cards and a good run could help cover the cost of a few dinners out or pick up a bar tab or two. The more enthusiastic of players may not find enough here to whet their appetites, but when you need indoors out of the sun for an hour, it may be okay.

The Le Meridien Douala overlooks the Wouri River and offers guest rooms and suites which come equipped with satellite televisions, air conditioning and internet access. The hotel is near several attractions, close to popular beaches and has a restaurant on site as well as a cocktail lounge and pool-side grill.

Dining

For breakfast and lunch buffets and international cuisine, choose the Wouri Restaurant, open 6:30 am to 10:30 am, noon until 3:30 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm. Find light eats in Cocotiers, 10 am to midnight. Grilled eats are served at Madiba, near the pool, noon to 11 pm. Head into town looking for other venues where foods come in various international flavours. Ask casino staff for tips on venues popular with locals and tourists.

Attractions/NightLife

At the hotel, you can find your favourite cocktails in Cocotiers or hang pool-side enjoying your favourite drinks. Live jazz music is played in The Senat, also serving meals. Music in the genres of jazz, R and B and African beats are played in The Broadway, dishing up local cuisine as well. More live music can be found in La Cigale, also occasionally at The Club. Local attractions in the area include the Flour Market, La Pagode, the Municipal Museum, the Maritime Museum, Hotel Akwa Palace and the Douala water park, the latter good if you happen to be travelling with family. Head over to Limbe for shopping or their several beaches like Kribe Beach or the Lobe Waterfalls. This would be a good time to pick up all your souvenirs as well.
