Letsatsi Casino

Located about halfway between the cities of Francistown and Gaborone, is the town of Palapye. While there are a few things to do here for the active traveller, the town’s fame is probably the Morupule Power Station, supplied by the Morupule Colliery coal mine and a primary source for Botswanan electricity. Locally, check out the Moremi Gorge and the Tswapong Hills. If you’re fine driving the 50 km out, it’s worth it to visit the Khama Rhino Santuary, just outside of Serowe. To soak up a bit of history, check out the remains of Old Palapye, also called Phalatswe.

The casino, unfortunately, is rather light in its offerings, with just a mere 50 classic and video slot machines and video poker terminals. Palapye is quite likely the stop between two other destinations, but while here, you still may want to pop in for a bit of light gaming especially after hours out traveling in the hot sun. Get your bearings and unwind while trying your luck at a few machines.

Hotel/Accommodations

The Cresta Botsalo Hotel offers 50 rooms coming equipped with satellite tv, internet access and air conditioning. The hotel has dining facilities on site as well as a cocktail lounge. When you need to unwind, spend a bit of time poolside. While staying at the hotel make sure to fully utilize your holiday by talking to staff for recommendations on local eateries popular with both the townspeople and tourists, cool bars to hang out, as well as any lesser-known attractions which might be nearby. Ask for help arranging transportation to some of the further out attractions like the Rhino Sanctuary.

Dining

At the hotel, choose to dine at Savuti Grill with its a la carte menu and evening buffets. You can also opt to dine poolside during the day, with its special menu. For African-Portugese fusion meals there’s Nandos, specializing in chicken dishes in varying degrees of heat and spiciness. If you head over to the Majestic Five Hotel, you can dine in their restaurant Grill, with its a la carte menu and large lunch and dinner buffets. For a taste of back home there’s a local Wimpy’s with its burgers and salads, or walk around looking for a local eatery dishing up authentic Botswanan cuisine.

Attractions/NightLife

For geographical features, head to either Moremi Gorge or Photophoto Gorge. There’s waterfalls over in Malaka Village which is also near Old Palapye where you can find the remains of the London Missionary Society Church built back in 1891. If you’re interested in hiking, try the Tswapong Hills. If you’re lucky, you can catch some of the local wildlife like baboons and leopard but you might find it easier to head to either the vulture breeding colonies over in Gootau or driving out to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary near Serowe and some 50 km from Palapye with its endangered black and white rhinos. Head into town finding your own new favourite watering-hole while here and chatting up the locals or enjoy your drinks pool-side back at the hotel.
