  • Hiya LCB'ers,

Anytime a Slot or Video Poker machine has hit big next to me i would always let a player know when they were about to sit down. I figure i would want to know and when i have been told i thank them and move on.

I learned a very harsh lesson a couple years back that i swore never again will i warn a player! A woman sitting next to me won the top level Progressive Jackpot on a Slot. Shortly after winning she got up and left.

A few minutes later a guy comes walking over and i said to him "just to let you know a lady just hit the Progressive Jackpot on that machine, so it could be done". He thanked me for letting him know and left.

Wasn't long after that another woman sat down and i also told her and she said well maybe its on a hot roll and began spinning. After about 5 minutes of playing the Progressive Jackpot hit again! I don't think i have ever seen that before in my life considering how tough it is to win it.

She naturally drew a crowd and up walks the guy i warned not to sit there..........omg! If looks could kill i would be dead and buried. I sort of slumped in my seat not knowing where to run and hide. He was so furious at me because technically it was my fault for warning him in the first place!

Since that time i have never again warned anyone about a machine that just hit. And if they ask me and it has hit i say yes and not another word!

If you know a machine just hit would you play it or would you move on?

  • omg that totally sucks-that you had to be stared down by him, and had no where to run, that is pretty funny, though (glad it's not me!)....
Now, unlike you, I actually always like to think a machine has a few more in them...This being said, I have sent many friends to machines that i would see from afar that have just hit and the player walked away, and yes more often than not they end up hitting within the next 5 spins!!!! but that's just me! haha

  • Jesus, now that's some bad luck! I don't think you've done anything wrong, I would have told him the same thing. But still, I can only guess how embarrassing that was...

  • I never tell people anything unless they ask. I have been told the same thing and sat down anyway but never had that kind of luck. I wouldn't be embarrassed if I were you though lips. He could've played the machine anyway but he chose not to. Not your fault.

  • I only tell people if they ask.  I never offer the information.  Last night I sat down at a video poker machine and asked the woman next to me if anyone had hit it.  She said "no" and that her husband played it quite a bit and didn't hit anything.  (They are BIG betters at $50.00 per spin.)  So I sat down and played it and didn't have any luck either and I played it for a long time thinking it was going to hit.

    You never know I guess.

  • Video Poker can be so brutal like when you slip in $100 and it's gone in two minutes. I have seen poker machines that have been like a revolving door. Player after player sits down and loses. I then go over to it thinking it's gonna hit and of course it doesn't. Then again you can sit down and hit a jackpot in two hands.

  • Do not fret lips you were just trying to be helpful.  I have done the same thing before. Look on the bright side,i feel if something is meant for someone else no one else can get it. You might have saved that guy a lot of money smiley.

  • I don't play in Land based casino, but i would not play and stay away from that slot . And i see that playing online, some casino have that real time gaming thing, where you can see how much people winning right now and what type slot are playing. I don't know why they are created this, because i wouldn't play that slot (online) if somebody won jackpot right now or very big win, because i think it's a trap. I guess some people see what this slot "giving" money and they trying get lucky too on that slot and lost their money

  •                 That's too funny, Lips.  Lesson learned I guess.  I  will say once a few years back I was at the Hard Rock here in Tampa sitting at a machine and won a minor jackpot (It had a low/high) with 5 Statues of Liberty paying around $500-700  around there and then it resets.  Well instead of leaving,  I stayed for a  few more minutes and  damned if I didn't  win it again.  Never happened since but it was weird.  Now that drew a small crowd.  I wouldn't  have sat there if I saw someone just win but you never know.

  • I would just love to peek at the algorithms for the slot machines... Then again, if I did, I would probably be writing this from my tropic island smiley

I love to play a machine after someone has dumped a lot of money in it especially when they have not won. I always think i have greater odds of it popping. Another thing i do is if i see a player only play a one credit per hand or only one hand on a multi-hand Video Poker machine (which drives me nuts) is play it because sometimes its ripe to pay on max credits!
  • I think that playing the same machine someone dropped a ton of cash on and haven't won seems like a good strategy to me!

  • I always look at what was cashed out on the machine before playing. I know it might not always mean anything but, if I see there was a large cash out I won't even sit down!

  • Sometimes that can be tricky for me because i am not sure if was just a big voucher placed in the machine or it was a big win. If i notice similar cash-out amounts in a row of machines then i can pretty well assume a player just came along and tried their luck down the row and its not a big win.
