Boyd Gaming has an interesting history that dates back to 1941 after the founder Sam Boyd and his family moved to Las Vegas. Having a vast interest in the Las Vegas industry, Sam worked his way to the top first starting out as a pit boss his ambition led him to later become general manager at the Mint Las Vegas. But it wasn’t until after leaving Sahara Hotel and Casino where he managed to save enough money to buy small percentage of interest.
In 1962 along with his son Bill teamed up together and acquired the Eldorado Casino in Henderson, Nevada. The Boyd Gaming Corp was founded January 1st, 1975 where they owned and operated the California Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas.
Today it is still a family run operation with Bill Boyd as the current company’s executive chairman after Sam’s CEO retirement in 2008.
