From September 23, 2013, Marja Appelman (41) will take over the position of director of the Kansspelautoriteit or the Dutch Gambling Authority from the current interim director Peter Plug.
At the moment, Appelman is working as a partner and one of the three founders of SIRM, a quantitative and economic strategy consulting firm, prior to which she earned significant experience at the Dutch Healthcare Authority, the Central Planning Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch Competition Authority.
In related news, another announcement came from the Kansspelautoriteit in which it states that it had submitted a letter to Secretary of Security and Justice Fred Teeven in which it notes the issues and presents recommendations on the draft remote gaming bill.
Four key areas have been addressed in the document: preventing gambling-related illegality and criminality; protecting and informing consumers; combating gambling addiction; and regulating legal offers.
