New task for Mallia
A new rapporteur has been appointed to compile and submit opinion on the EU Green Paper on Online Gambling – it is Stefano Mallia, a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) whose opinion will be represented in the compilation due to be presented by October.
The committee forms an integral part of the EU’s decision-making process, so it’s natural that it needs to be consulted before any decisions on economic and social policy. It has 344 members, five of which come from Malta, the smallest within the Committee, whereas the biggest number of members is held by countries such as Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom - 24 members each.
The body presents and defends its views in policy discussions with the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament representing employers, trade unions, consumers and other interest groups.
