Hellboy is one of the newest comic book heroes of our generation. He first came to fame in 1993 and has since been the subject of two animated and two feature length blockbuster movies. His fame has continue to build, so much so that Microgaming has produced a five reel slot based on his exploits.
Hellboy Slot Theme
The reels are surrounded with a cityscape similar to the setting from the first Hellboy film. The large tentacle like plant is shown up top whilst the buttons are designed to look like the secret underworld located in downtown New York.
All the best known characters are included on the reels. You’ll see Hellboy, Abe, Liz, Krauss, Professor Bruttenholm (his ‘Father’) and his best known asset, The Right Hand of Doom. These icons are bolstered by the inclusion of 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace symbols.
A gothic and somewhat evangelical song plays in the background with various sound effects attributed to wins, bonus features and icons. The various sound bites work well with the visual elements, both fit well with the Hellboy franchise.
Betting Options and More Functions
With such a varied fan base it was important that Microgaming chose a betting range to match. Players can choose to bet anything from 0.01 to $50 per spin by choosing various coin options, different numbers of lines and even place up to 10 coins on each. This range is wide enough to encompass fun players, low stakes, mid stakes and relative high rollers in one fell swoop.
Hellboy Slot Features
The Hell Boy logo will substitute for all other reel graphics excluding the bonus and scattered icons. This not only creates more wins but doubles them in the process.
At least three Right Hand of Doom icons will award the Underworld Bonus. You begin by choosing one of five closed tunnels and will receive either:
- A monster which will award a bonus win and progress you to the next level.
- A friend (Abe, Liz etc) will award a bonus amount and every other available prize on that level. You will then progress to the next set of doors.
- Blocked message: will end you game but any bonus wins already won will be credited to your account.
If you reach the Chamber of Fire you and find the Relic you will win the maximum bonus prize.
Hellboy also includes a randomly triggered supermode. Players will receive ten free spins with a maximum of three wilds which are held in place. Should any more wilds appear during the spins they will also be held in place which will help create yet more wins.
Our Take on the Hellboy Video Slot
The gritty graphics, soundtrack and features are perfectly matched to the Hellboy series. As Sci-Fi fans we really enjoyed the theme, but can see non-fans also enjoying it because of the generous betting range and prizes on offer.
